Day 01 : Drive from Rishikesh to Gangotri (3120m); 270 km, 10 hour.
A journey of 270 kms from Rishikesh brings you to the Hindu pilgrimage town of Gangotri. Roam around the holy town of Gangotri, take part in the evening aarti at the Gangotri temple and if time permits do an acclimation hike to Surya Kund. Overnight stay in guesthouse/hotel.
Day 02 : Trek Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak (3791m); 8 km, 5 hour.
The initial few kilometres of the trek are very steep so try to walk at a slow yet constant speed. The trail ascends precipitously for 8 km and you can see the narrow gorge of kedar ganga to your left. Now you are walking through the mix forest of pine, fir and bhoj trees. soon you’ll see your first campsite on the other side of a steep and narrow rock, popularly known as the ‘Spider Wall‘. This 4 ft wide path needs to be crossed by utmost patience and concentration. Any miss-judgement will take you some hundreds of feet down the valley. Cross this section and our first campsite at Bhoj Kharak greets you.
Day 03 : Trek Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak (4280m); 5 km, 4 hour.
The trek from BhojKharak to KedarKharak passes through some grim patches and rugged terrains. The flora rich trail with numerous Bhojpatra trees and the snow covered Bhrigupant peak in the backdrop is certain to mesmerize you. Kedar Kharak is a lush grassland surrounded by the mighty Himalayan peaks on all sides. This campsite is perfect for the photographers as the Bharal (Blue Sheep) often visit here for grazing and the scenery is like a surreal dream.
Day 04 : Trek Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal (4780m); 6 km, 4.5 hour.
The trail from Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal is a rocky maze with just a couple of small streams that are not close by, so it’s better to carry adequate water supplies. The 5 Km path is a rocky terrain with no greenery around. The route is packed with small rocks and huge boulders which involves lots of steep climbs and rapid descents. Kedar Tal, the Shiva’s lake or the source of Kedar Ganga is an emerald lake at an altitude of 4780m. AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) at such height is quite common, so go for an acclimatization hike after a quick rest.
Day 05 : Trek Kedar Tal to Bhoj Kharak (3791m); 11 km, 5 hour.
Wake up early in the morning for a glorious sunrise, rig up your cameras and watch the scenery as the first colous of dawn touches the snowy peaks. Quickly go near the lake to capture the reflection of the sun’s rays falling on the snowy peaks. After a healthy breakfast we begin our descent to Bhoj Kharak for an overnight stay.
Day 06 : Trek Bhojkharak to Gangotri and Drive to Dharali (2620m); 8 km trek , 1 hour drive.
Post breakfast, complete the final section of the on-foot excursion by following the exact same path. Cherish the surroundings for the last time and bid goodbye to the mountains. The decent will take 3 – 4 hour time and we’ll be back in Gangotri. Board our awaiting vehicle and drive to Dharali. Situated amidst the incredible beauty of mountain peaks, Dharali is counted amongst some of the most beautiful places in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
Day 07 : Drive back to Rishikesh. Reach by 7-8 pm.
This is the last day of our trip and the sentiment of the trekking experience is unforgettable. We take back some amazing memories and incredible moments to rejoice for the rest of our life. Board our awaiting vehicle and drive back to Rishikesh. Lunch on the way and trip finishes at Rishikesh.
