Itinerary

Day 01 : Drive Rishikesh to Ghuttu (1524m); 187 km, 6 – 7 hour.

Once you reach Sankri that is soaked in natural beauty, check into the hotel. In the evening, enjoy a stroll in the charming and peaceful village surroundings and warm up for the next day adventure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

 

Day 02 : Trek Ghuttu (1524m) to Gaurmanda; 10 km, 6 hour.

The initial climb is a steep ascent and crosses several bridges through dense forest of oak, birch & deodar. The trail is wide and you can hear the melody of several running rivulets throughout. Juda-ka-Talab is a small picturesque lake pond that turns to ice during the winters. Sometimes the layered ice is thick enough to walk on it. The sharp contrast of the beautiful lake and the thick pine and oak trees makes it an ideal campsite to spend a perfect chill out evening.

 

Day 03 : Trek Gaurmanda to Panwalikantha (3500m); 10 km, 6 hour.

The trail passes through a tree line of dry oak forest and wide snow covered fields. You will see many shepherd huts while traversing on this route. The evening sunset sky is a beautiful sight to behold, to see the mountains painted with golden hues. Wait for the night to enjoy the dense cluster of stars and glistening peaks of the mountains, coming together to provide an awe striking view. Overnight in tents.

 

Day 04 : Trek Panwalikantha (3500m) to Ghuttu (1524m); 20 km, 7 – 8 hour.

A wide view of Himalayan peaks will greet you at the summit. You can distinctively see the Gangotri & Yamunotri ranges visible from the top of the peak. Other Himalayan peaks that can be seen from the summit includes the Kinner Kailash range and other ranges in Himanchal. Delight in the amazing 360° views of the Himalayan peaks and rest for sometime. After that begin your descend towards the Hargaon campsite.

 

Day 05 : Drive Ghuttu to Rishikesh; 187 km, 6 – 7 hour.

Start off early in the morning and descend through the dense forest to reach Sankri. The descend passes through a more clearly marked well paved pathway, laden with small stones. Continue walking towards a ridge and you can see the splendid view of God’s own valley, Har-ki-dun. In just less than 3 hours time you’ll reach Sankri from where we board our awaiting vehicle to drive us back to Rishikesh. Lunch on the way and Trip finishes at Rishikesh.

Panwalikantha Trek is one of the less frequented high altitude meadows of Garhwal Himalayas. Apart from its exhilarating landscapes and lush green vegetation, it is mostly popular for its sunset views. Prominent snow peaks like Thalay Sagar, Meru, Kirti Stambh, Kedar Dome, Kedarnath, Chaukhambha, Nilkanth, etc. are all visible during the trek. The beautiful meadows are perched at an altitude of 3500m and can be accessed from a small, picturesque village named ‘Ghuttu’. During monsoon season the meadows are beautifully laden with a wide variety of wild flowers and lush greenery all around, while in winters, it remains covered with a thick blanket of snow. The Panwali meadows are also home to several wild animals. You can spot high-altitude animals like Bharal (blue sheep), Himalayan bears, weasels and the rare musk deer. Given its easy to moderate level of challenge, Panwalikantha is an ideal entry level trek for anyone wanting to make his first move in the vast world of trekking.
