Tour Highlights
The Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra (Ex-Dharchula) is a compact, high-altitude pilgrimage designed for travelers who prefer to reach the Uttarakhand border on their own and only require assistance for the restricted Himalayan zone. Starting directly from the border town of Dharchula, this 5-day circuit dives immediately into the rugged terrain of the Vyas Valley using specialized 4x4 mountain vehicles. It focuses entirely on the core spiritual darshans without the long transit days from the plains.
Day-wise Itinerary
Arrive in the border town of Dharchula independently. Check into your hotel. The primary focus of today is administration: completing your mandatory physical fitness check-up with a local doctor and submitting your paperwork at the SDM office to obtain the Inner Line Permit (ILP). In the evening, you can cross the suspension bridge over the Kali River to briefly explore the Nepal market. Overnight in a hotel in Dharchula.
After an early breakfast, shift into local 4x4 utility vehicles (Bolero/Camper) as regular cars cannot navigate the roads ahead. The drive follows the Kali River upstream, passing the spectacular Chialekh valley and Garbyang village. Arrive at Gunji or Nabi (approx. 3,200m). The afternoon is dedicated to strict rest to acclimatize to the sudden gain in altitude. Overnight in a local homestay.
Drive from your homestay to Jyolingkong (4,495m), the base camp for Adi Kailash. From here, enjoy the magnificent darshan of Mount Adi Kailash. Walk approximately 2-3 km to reach the sacred Parvati Sarovar and the adjacent Shiva temple to perform puja. Those with high fitness levels can trek slightly further to Gauri Kund. Return to Gunji/Nabi by late afternoon for an overnight stay.
Depart early towards Nabidhang (4,340m) to witness the sunrise over Om Parvat, where the snow perfectly forms the "OM" symbol. En route, visit the Kalapani Temple (the origin of the Kali River) and the Vyas Gufa, where Sage Vyas is said to have meditated. After completing the darshan, begin the long, continuous descent back to Dharchula. Overnight in a hotel in Dharchula.
After breakfast, check out of your hotel. The Ex-Dharchula package concludes here, and you can begin your onward journey back toward Pithoragarh, Kathgodam, or Delhi.
